White Flight From the Nursing Home

The number of older Americans living in nursing homes continues to fall, and the proportion of residents who are black, Hispanic or Asian has climbed sharply. But don’t expect cheers from the Brown University researchers who’ve tracked this major shift in long-term care. With greater scrutiny, then, this demographic trend represents a less happy reality. Unable to sell Homes, Elderly Forgo Move to Assisted Living- Wasn’t that long ago that these facilities had waiting lists of people wanting to  move in. Now the NY Times reports that those unable to sell their homes, and there are many, cannot move. While for some this delays a downsizing, for others it may be delaying that level of care that they need badly. Artificial Pancreas- checking ones glucose level is a routine practiced regularly by diabetes sufferers. Technology is coming forward with a device that mimics the function of the pancreas and automatically adjusts sugar levels. USA Today reveals and we report.
